We plan to publish our analysis of the iPhone 11 for next week, but we wanted to share with you the impressions of other international media of recognized prestige to offer you, as always, a vision as wide and impartial as possible. This will make it clearer what Apple's new offers and you can decide if it really should become your next smartphone (or not).
Finally, we will leave you a series of conclusions about the new Apple, and we invite you, as always, to leave your opinion in the comments.
Analysis of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro: the camera is the star
In general, all the analyzes that I have had the opportunity to read have several points in common, but without a doubt the most important one focuses on the value offered by the improvements that Apple has introduced at the camera level, not only from the point of view of hardware (lenses and optics) but also software and artificial intelligence.
With the iPhone 11 (in all its versions) Apple has focused the cameras' career on artificial intelligence, a path that Google's giants had already taken, with its Pixel series, and also other companies such as Huawei and Samsung.
Other important aspects also stand out, such as improvements at the level of autonomy and performance, but it is best to review, briefly, the assessment that each medium offers in its analysis of the iPhone 11.
The Verge defines the iPhone 11 in its analysis as "the smartphone that almost everyone should buy", and highlights its excellent camera configuration, its good autonomy and the price that, we remember, is $ 699 for the base version 809 euros in Spain after applying taxes). The only negative points it collects do not directly affect the terminal since they focus on iOS 13 and Apple's closed ecosystem, and the fact that it comes with a 5-watt charger.
Pocket Link describes the iPhone 11 as "perfect compromise", and in its assessment, it coincides in some points with The Verge, as it also praises the quality of the cameras, night mode, battery and balance at the price level, but not coincides in the criticisms of iOS 13. As negative points stand out, again, the presence of a 5-watt charger, and also criticize the absence of HDR and 5G connectivity.
Cnet considers in its analysis that the iPhone 11 is the best "mid-range iPhone" that Apple has launched. I do not think that this smartphone can be classified as mid-range in any case, since it mounts an Apple A13 SoC, the most powerful thing the company has right now in the market, but I understand the concept they want to convey, which is the best iPhone « Apple's "economic so far. They emphasize, on the positive side, the performance, the camera and the price of the iPhone 11, and focus their criticism on the continuity of the design, the limitation of the base model to 64 GB.
Wired says in his analysis of the iPhone 11 that "it is not the best you can buy, but it is a good smartphone for what it costs." Interesting, since it is a fairly "hard" analysis with the new Apple. Among the positive points, we see its excellent performance, the cameras, the battery, the night mode, and its "low price" (to be an iPhone). The negative focus mainly on design and finishes, which are "identical" to those of the iPhone XR.
We finished the analysis round of the iPhone 11 with The New York Times, where they define the new Apple as a confirmation that we do not need to change the iPhone every two years. Interesting, because although it values positively the novelties that this terminal introduces and also highlights aspects such as performance, cameras, and autonomy, it believes that Apple has not managed to make a jump large enough to justify a renewal.
We now talk about the iPhone 11 Pro. We repeat with The Verge, where they open applauding the improvement at the level of autonomy and highlight the cameras, battery and screen quality. As negative points repeat iOS 13, the "walls" of the Apple ecosystem and the absence of a 3.5 mm jack adapter. They also criticize the "high price" of both the iPhone 11 Pro and the Pro Max version.
Cnet says in its analysis that there are two great reasons to buy the iPhone 11 Pro Max, improvements at the camera level and autonomy. As we can see, there is a clear trend in all media, which focuses their valuations on these two great points. Their analysis is, in general, very positive, although they recognize that the price is so high that they are only really recommended for "professional or advanced" users who can exploit their full potential.
Tech Radar leaves us a simple conclusion, the iPhone 11 Pro is the best Apple smartphone to date. They highlight the photographic section, performance, and autonomy, but criticize the lack of changes at the design level, the lack of innovation beyond the cameras and the AI system associated with them and the price, which they consider very high. Remember that the iPhone Xs Max hit the market for $ 1,099, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will cost exactly the same.
Wired questions the real potential of the cameras of the new iPhone 11 Pro, saying in his analysis that when faced with a Google Pixel 3, he did not always capture the best image. This is undoubtedly a very important criticism since we talk about a less expensive smartphone and an earlier generation that also has a single camera in the back. Despite all the global assessment they make of the new Apple is good (9 over 10).
Apple has endorsed the idea of diversification as a way to reach a greater number of users, a strategy that has worked very well in the last two generations. With the arrival of the iPhone X, those of the apple reduced risks by launching the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and so did the debut of the iPhone Xs, which was accompanied by the iPhone XR and the iPhone Xs Max.
With this approach, those of Cupertino cover the “low” level and the “top” level of the high range, offering a more “economic” model for those who suffer cold sweats when thinking about the idea of spending 1,000 euros on a smartphone, and giving the option to those who have a very high budget to get a more complete alternative. In this generation, these levels are covered by the iPhone 11, which positions as an "affordable" option, and the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, which rank at the top.
Personally, I think Apple's strategy is correct, but the firm that directs Tim Cook continues to make bulk mistakes that should have been overcome years ago. One of the most important is the stagnation at the design level, and that is what we do not see anything new in the iPhone 11, nothing that makes us forget the lines that the iPhone X introduced two years ago. Another of the most relevant we have in that fault and effort to improve the Samsung mobile price in Bangladeshthrough simple movements, and it would have cost you nothing to add an 18-watt charger to the iPhone 11 pack and a jack adapter in instead of "forcing" the user to buy them.
There is no doubt that at the level of performance, autonomy and photographic capabilities the new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro-Pro Max represent a very large leap compared to the previous generation, but I think, as some analyzes indicate, that it is not enough to justify a renewal every one or two years. I am also clear that maintaining 64 GB of base storage capacity in a terminal of more than 1,000 euros is a total "skid."
